Art Inspired Art: The latest pieces inspired by Mi Vida Loca din 2017

Last Updated on July 11, 2017 1 Comment

As always, I am honored to find pieces done by artists from all ages, experiences, and walks of life.  Here are just a few:

This beauty was posted by the artist, Donnie Graciado, to my Facebook wall.

Water color piece done by artist Donnie Graciado AVLO.

Watercolor piece by artist Donnie Graciado AVLO.

This one floored me. This is actually a screen cap of a short little video on Instagram I saw posted by the artist @oldiestatts408925

La Mousie. Art by @oldiestatts408925

It’s hard to believe this oil painting by Nina Rivera is her first work in this style.

This piece makes me smile. @wickedbonesart uses color so beautifully in all her work.

I love how NITEOWL ARTE says he just did this sketch while he was on break at work. This is his passion because it will not… It CAN not be stopped!! I love it. Found on Instagram by @chicano_arts

If you run across any artist that you think I should feature, please let me know.

Art Inspired Art: If Your Life Was Like “Mi Vida Loca”

More fun with the kids over at PeroLike!

Mad props to Curly and Maya  for their incredible sense of humor. Buzzfeed launched PeroLike in 2016 and they are kicking @**!!!
This memo from Alex Alvarez and Norberto Briceño totally nails what PeroLike is all about:

We’re launching as a Facebook and YouTube channel, making content that resonates with English-speaking Latinxs (who are, to put it mildly, kind of a big deal). We’re a group that’s historically been under- and misrepresented in media, and we’re here to change that. The purpose of this initiative is to feature the best, funniest, smartest, and most in-depth look at the myriad identities under the “Latinx” umbrella. This is for blaxicans in LA, Tejanos in Corpus Christi, Cubans in Miami (and their abuelitas), and everyone who’s been told they don’t “look Latina.” It’s for the bold, the proud, the creative, and even the hopelessly awkward. We’re here for you too, man.

Art Inspired Art: Selena and Me.

I love social media. I got this message on Instagram and was moved to tears.

“If you can’t accept me at my Chola, you don’t deserve me at my Selena.” For the readers of this blog, that may not understand the magnitude of this… Selena Quintanilla is a mega diva/icon/queen. It is safe to say that she is larger than Marilyn Monroe in the Tejano culture. She was tragically murdered is forever missed and loved.

For my face to be tatted alongside hers, suffice to say that I cannot even begin to explain how humbling something like this feels!!! To the artist and wearer of this art… thank you so much. The love and loyalty are inspiring…. Thank YOU.

Art Inspired Art: Mi Vida Loca… Mural

I can’t even!!!

Works of art like this are not only humbling beyond words, they are an ever-present reminder to follow our dreams.

Masaya, Nicaragua

Even now, as I sort through a rediscovery of my purpose and passion, I am so grateful to connect with the unmistakable force of nature that compels us to create.

I am a huge fan of murals. I try to take pictures of murals where ever I go.

Murals are not only beautiful, they are a form of expression and they can also be a tool for (r)evolution.

Phoenix, Arizona

If you are ever in Los Angeles, you can see some AMAZING murals and you should also check out SPARC (The Social and Public Art Resource Center) in Venice. Judith Baca is the founder of SPARC as well as a professor at UCLA. Here is just a brief article on what she has to say about art changing lives: PBS American Family.

Portland, Oregon

I wish more artists (and when I say artist, I mean ALL people with an urge to create) would read stories like Judith’s. The urge to create can at times feel like a curse but it is a calling.

When we listen and respond, we participate not only in the transformation of our own souls but in the overall transformation of our community.

As always, I am wishing you the very best on your amazing journey. Thank you all for sharing mine!

Art inspired Art: San Fransisco Artist takes on Mi Vida Loca

This is one of several “Art Inspired Art” posts that I have done. I continue to be honored and amazed by the many artists who, with passion and talent, not only share their work but also continue to iconize Mi Vida Loca and it’s characters.

Michelle Guintu is a Bay Area artist who caught my eye on Instagram. An article in Juxtapoz Magazine had this to say about her work, “She re-imagines ’80s and ’90s pop culture icons in a unique way, depicting luminaries that range from Tupac to Ronald McDonald.”

I’m a huge fan of mixed media art. If you have a chance to check out her work, please do. It’s not an easy task to bare one’s soul. I believe that artists who have the guts to create and show their work deserve LOVE and RESPECT.

Art inspired art: Before and After

Last Updated on March 22, 2017 Leave a Comment

As some of you may know, I LOVE collecting Mi Vida Loca inspired artwork. I have found pieces from all over the world.
This clever “decholafication” is by artist Amber Tilden. She drew the “after”  portrait on top of a printed photo! Who knew I was such a guera?!!!
I was tagged on this piece on Instagram. If you find a piece of MVL art, tag me! @angelawakened
As always, I am proudest that pieces like this represent the completion of a circle for me. Pieces like this remind me of the kinds of things that can happen when people follow their hearts and take advantage of the opportunities that life presents. Countless examples have proven that if you have vision, passion and perseverance, there is nothing that you cannot do. If you are dreaming about the life you wish you could live, take active steps to get there. If you have stopped dreaming, it may be time to change  your life!
PEACE.
