I wanted to post about one of the most basic and vital life functions. BREATH.
Have you ever had a panic or anxiety attack? I have. It always started in my mind and ended in my chest. I would suddenly feel like I couldn’t breathe and then, fear would set in. Trust me when I tell you I’m not being dramatic when I say, that fear felt like death was knocking.
Why?
Probably because breathing is life. It is the only bodily function that we do both voluntarily and involuntarily. Proper breathing is to bring more oxygen to the blood and to the brain. We can consciously use breathing to influence the part of our nervous system that regulates blood pressure, heart rate, circulation, digestion and many other bodily functions. I had to learn how to consciously (voluntarily) breathe so I wouldn’t lose consciousness!
Maybe you are not as severe with anxiety as I was but whatever your condition, using and learning proper breathing technique is one of the most beneficial things that can be done for both short and long-term physical and emotional health.
Today, just breathe. When we do what it takes to make deep breathing a part of our everyday practice, we indulge in the greatest gift we can give our own bodies…
Not sure where to start?
