The Thoughts of An Angel Awakened

How To Look Good, Feel Better and Love Life

The Low Down on Superfood Shakes

Last Updated on March 22, 2017 Leave a Comment

I must confess my additction to superfood shakes. I make or purchase SOME form of shake every day. Some of the combinations have been delicious and some… well not so much.

Today, I made an ACAI (frozen and available at Costco), Antioxidant berry mix plus addition
Blackberries (the frozen mixes available at Costo as well) Kale (farmers market fresh) and Spirulina (organic powder available on Amazon).
The result looked like petroleum oil…
(When serving kids, looks matter and my kids didn’t want any part of this. For a shake that is a total kid pleaser check out Trinity’s Purple Passion or the Think Green) The Spirulina has an almost fishy smell, so I use half a tablespoon for an entire blender. The sweetness from the antioxident berry mix, which includes cherries, helped cut the bitterness from the kale (I only used 3 leaves). It was not THE MOST delicious of my shake recipes but it was in no way as bad as it looked!!! Next time I will use blueberries instead of blackberries.

The berry, spinach and kale shake I ordered last week at Whole Foods on the other hand… Well it would have been fine but I added tumeric and wheat grass. The wheat grass KILLED it for me and I hardly made it through the 12 oz cup. Wheat grass is too overpowering a flavor for me. I understand now why people do it as a shot. I am now 47. I slowly gained 20 pounds in the last five years and I am happy to release them using the healthy tools I have acquired over my lifetime. Wheat grass, will probably NOT be a part of my journey. 🙂

So, why do I obsess over these superfood shakes? Because superfoods are AMAZING. Check out Dr. Mercola’s infographic below.

7 Superfoods

I will be sharing more of my successes and failures with you in future posts. In the meantime feel free to discover the healthiest superfoods you can eat and learn why they’re super good for you on the Mercoloa blog post “7 Superb Superfoods to Power Up Your Life.”

30 Day Yoga Challenge

Last Updated on March 22, 2017 Leave a Comment

I had to share this. +DoYouYoga.com totally ROCKS.

A few of the great things about these vids are:

  1. Short (under 20 minutes, most are under 15)
  2. Good variety of easy/challenge
  3. Good full body (she focuses on on body part per video)
  4. She is easy to understand and adorable…

I had really dropped off the planet as far as working out. In this post about Walking Away the Pounds, I mention how important it is to find a work out you can win (or feel successful in) and this series was easy enough for me to jump back in and feel great.  I highly recommend it as a way to kick start a movement routine.

The Self Health Revolution Video

I had the chance to interview the author of one of my favorite books, The Self Health Revolution. This book is under 200 pages, filled with pictures, tips and tricks and to me, more than a book. This is a potential life changing vehicle. I have given this book to friends, family and clients. I keep a copy in my kitchen. In this audio clip, J. Michael Zenn generously shares some of his wisdom with us.

Whole Foods Market CEO and Founder “Enthusiastically” Endorses “The Self Health Revolution.” A short, powerful little book, The Self Health Revolution, surprisingly produces a jaw-dropping, heart-stopping, awe-inspiring, laugh-out-loud read. The author, J. Michael Zenn, convincingly persuades the reader they must seize control of their health now (Self Health) by taking a few, utterly-simple, 15-minute steps to loose weight, escape pain, ward off disease and recapture the energy lost in their youth.

On-the-side Marketing Tip: It’s always a great idea to repurpose content if you can. Here I decided to take the audio that I originally recorded for a live call and saved as an audio file on Soundcloud and create a Youtube video.

beauty and culture

The other day I posted a picture on Facebook and the result was a lively dialogue that I wanted to share here as well. The results from me commenting about being plus sized, were wild. GOOD dialogue to have though.

I am plus sized and over 40. I’m a soccer mom with 3 kids. I oppose what media images project beauty is yet, I am beautiful. I’m not conceited because I am blessed and grateful. I am confident because I am a loved, lover. I’ve learned and am learning what it means to be a woman and I share this knowledge with all my beautiful sisters, so that we may ALL be better human occupants of our bodies and this planet… PEACE.

I wanted to jump on here and say THANK YOU ALL again for the encouraging comments and likes. When I say plus sized, I’m not in anyway alluding to thinking I’m fat (although, trust me, I’ve taken some photos that made me wonder…), what I am saying is that I am FULL FIGURED. I am not waif, small, slight in anyway. I wear a size 8 and I’m 5′ 5.5″ I am soft all over with “texture” on certain areas of my body. I don’t have abs. I could totally trip about my imperfections because everyday I have look at tiny people, who I am told are beautiful. And sometimes they are but I recognize beauty in people of all sizes. I work out for health and I appreciate the aesthetics. The plus size label is NOT my idea. It just is. And I’m ok with it. Plus must mean fabulous because that’s how I spend most days feeling. I am not trying to have my 18 year old bod back but I don’t want hyper tension or diabetes either (both run in my family). I share my personal life in hopes to always inspire others to break free from thoughts and behaviors that are not conducive to living healthy, happy lives. For those of you that don’t know how our media classifies size I suggest the book HUNGRY by Crystal Renn. That’s all… 😉

The demand for a woman’s need to be rail thin juxtaposed against the corruption and advertising of food is insane. It occurs to me that the culture of beauty could use a makeover….
