The Thoughts of An Angel Awakened

How To Look Good, Feel Better and Love Life

VIDEO: Move it Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday… You get the idea.

Last Updated on March 22, 2017 Leave a Comment

I wrote this blog post back in 2011.

It is based on such a powerful premise that I recorded the reading on Soundcloud AND made a Youtube video.

The combination of elements I lay out in this post are so powerful, that when used together, ANYTHING is possible. Have a listen and KNOW that if you commit, you will reap results. Guaranteed.

PLEASE this theory to the test. Peace and blessings.

Walking away pounds…

Last Updated on March 28, 2019 Leave a Comment

I found this video on Youtube and was inspired to share.

There are any number of exercises that a person can do to begin getting into shape and strengthening their heart, but walking is one of the easiest and offers a great deal of benefit. After the birth of my second child, I hit the baby blues. I had gained sixty pounds and she was under six. Do the math.

I had never been overweight in my life and what was worse, I was unmotivated. My husbands incessant asking about my workout did not help to motivate me, in fact because I was such an emotional wreck, it just served as a developmental tool for my insecurity. He was a fitness trainer with gobs of knowledge about the physiology of the human form. He knew that getting blood circulating through the body was an important factor in overcoming even emotional conditions. I just grew more and more convinced he found me disgusting. On a rare day, I found myself out and about with my mom. At a local drug store I found a series of videos called “Walk Away the Pounds” by Leslie Sansone. They were on super sale and for some reason I bought them. I had been a dancer and stayed in relatively good shape but now I was too embarrassed to go to the gym or class. These videos were perfect. They were so easy that I was victorious in completeting the entire first video my first try. VICTORY is an important word in ANY health plan. The first walk lasted maybe 10 minutes but the FEELING of victory was exactly what I needed to get on the road to recovery.

When my good friend noticed that I was beginning to feel better, she said “Oh Angel! It’s so good that you were able to get your Qi moving!” What is Qi? Qi is the life-force or energy in the world. The fundamental insight of qigong and Chinese Medicine is that balanced and free-flowing qi results in health; while stagnant or imbalanced qi leads to disease. In China, the understanding of qi is inherent in the very language. For instance: The literal translation of the Chinese character meaning “health” is “original qi.” The literal translation of the character for “vitality” is “high quality qi.” The literal translation of the character meaning “friendly” is “peaceful qi.” Oh yes, my Qi moved and for me walking was not only energizing it was therapeutic.

Walking is:
An activity that almost anyone can do regardless of age or size.
One of the best ways to begin an exercise plan.
Can be done alone or as a group. Many communities have organized walks through their parks or nature preserves.
An activity with low risk of injury  comfortable, supportive athletic shoes are worn and don’t overdo it.

I eventually went on to begin taking longer and longer walks. I discovered walking outside with friends and encouraging their health and weight loss as well. I walked with my stroller through my second child’s toddler years and then through my third pregnancy. I still walk. The most important thing for me was, that I got started.

This week, calculate the amount of walking you do. What state of being are you in? Are you rushing to catch a bus for work? Leisurely strolling? Not walking at all? Do an assessment set an intention to up your walking game.

Benefits and Some Guidance on Fasting

Last Updated on December 25, 2018 1 Comment

I’ve recorded this post for your listening enjoyment.

Fasting is a great way to bring in the new year. After the Holiday’s, most of us can relate to wanting to start fresh. I myself am really looking forward to cleansing my body. I’m looking forward to shedding a few pounds and even more to having a SPIRITUAL BREAKTHROUGH.

You see, fasting can be a powerful experience. In almost every
religion, fasting is mentioned and is connected with being purified and/or in touch with the divine. Fasting is mentioned in both the Old and New
Testament, in the Mahabharata, in the Upanishads and in the Qur’an. So while you take the time to connect to the healing of your body and mind, you may also benefit from a connection to spirit.

I’ve had some profound breakthroughs while fasting. I remember really needing to forgive someone for doing someting I felt was unforgivable. I was so wrought with anger, anxiety and bitterness, I turned to fasting as my last resort. I remember praying “May I starve to death, if I cannot forgive as I have been forgiven…” (yes, it was dramatic but look who it’s coming from…) The first day, I noticed nothing (aside from the pang of hunger and even perhaps a bit more anger.) The second and third day I began to be relieved. On the fourth day, I woke up and was completely relieved. I was overcome with love. Now, a skeptic would call that delirium from food deprivation but I call it miraculous. I was humbled. That fast occurred over ten years ago and I am still free from the bitterness that had enslaved me.

If you’ll be joining me, I’ve put together the following basic tips.

From Robert Alan Ross Consultant | Author | Teacher @www.rawfoodlife.com
If you’ve never fasted before, I recommend starting out with a 3-day juice
fast. Actually, this is a 5-day program. On the first day eat nothing
but raw fruits and veggies (avoid fruits if you have any sugar issues).
For the next three days have simple juices for all your meals (green
only if you have sugar issues). On the last day, eat a simple raw diet –
just fruit and salads. This gives your body a chance to enter into a
cleansing cycle gradually and gracefully, and then step out of the
cleansing cycle gradually and safely as well. Don’t shock your body by
breaking the fast too suddenly with a pizza as that can cause more harm
than the good you did while fasting!

From www.spiritualfasting.net

  1. Try to drink only freshly squeezed juice from fresh fruits and vegetables.
Having a juicer is a definite advantage while you are on this type of
fast, but of you cannot manage either a juicer or fresh fruits, then
consuming juices from juice bars and health food stores is advised. Try
to avoid packed juices that are processed and chemically preserved.
  2. Use organic fruits and vegetables for your juice fasting recipes.
In case you cannot find fresh organic fruits, then try to get rid of
the chemicals by peeling the fruit or vegetable and washing it
    thoroughly.
  3. You should consume at least six to eight glasses of normal room temperature
water and at least two to four liters of fresh juice when on a juice
    fasting diet.
  4. You can avoid citrus fruits since they cause acidity on an empty stomach. Drinking the juice
of green fruits and vegetables is advised so that you can get the benefits of chlorophyll. Some of the most  commonly advised fruits and vegetables are apple, cranberry, pineapple, carrot, celery, cabbage, kale, beetroot, spinach and other green vegetables. Try to drink both fruit and vegetable juices. You can find a number of fasting recipes on the internet that will make your fast more interesting and healthy.
  5. A properly conducted juice fast is one of the best methods of fasting detoxification and fasting weight loss. To get maximum benefits from your juice fast, consult your doctor or dietician, since they will be able to advise you regarding what to eat and what not eat, and how
exactly to go about your fast based on your medical history.

I am releasing my intentieon out into the Universe. May you all have a beautiful and profound breakthrough. May it be exactly what you need to step into the fabulous you of next year!

Food For Thought. Why Eat Breakfast?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… Right? There are tons of of things to see and do. Everywhere we turn, there are tons of yummy things to eat too! Well, I’ve never been one to skip breakfast but at this time of the year, we are busy and may skip this all so important meal. I’ve done a little research to encourage you to take a little extra time in the morning to feed your body and brain. If you think you are saving calories for that office fruitcake or eggnog, think again! Breakfast is believed to increase the metabolic rate and decrease chances of eating larger portions of less healthy foods. So, skipping is not a good idea. Here are some more facts:

Amplify’d from www.webmd.com
Kids Need Their Morning Meal
When kids skip breakfast, they can end up going for as long as eighteen hours without food, and this period of semistarvation can create a lot of physical, intellectual, and behavioral problems for them.
A Good Investment
By recharging your brain and your body, you’ll be more efficient in just about everything you do. Interestingly, studies show that kids who skip breakfast are tardy and absent from school more often than children who eat breakfast on a regular basis.
Break the Fast to Shed the Pounds
Some people skip breakfast in an effort to lose weight, but the practice is more likely to cause weight gain than weight loss. Skipping breakfast is strongly linked to the development of obesity. Studies show that overweight and obese children, adolescents, and adults are less likely to break the fast each morning than their thinner counterparts.
According to research, skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal or nibble on high-calorie snacks to stave off hunger. Several studies suggest that people tend to accumulate more body fat when they eat fewer, larger meals than when they eat the same number of calories in smaller, more frequent meals. To teens, especially teenage girls, skipping breakfast may seem like a perfectly logical way to cut down on calories and lose weight. It’s important for moms to educate their kids about the importance of the morning meal and the role it plays in maintaining good health and preventing obesity.

Stop the H8. Brussell sprouts are NOT yucky!!, a photo by Angel Aviles McClinton on Flickr.

I LOVE Brussell sprouts. I didn’t used to but I rediscovered them a few years ago and now they are a regular item on my menu.

As you can see, I buy them on the stem. I have my kids help me prep and they love them too! My son will always ask why people say they’re yucky. I always say, “maybe they eat some that are not made with love…” 😉

Love comes easy in this house. Picked off the stem, cut in half and in a marinade of olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt, pepper and garlic. Oven-roasted for a few minutes… Yum! And, they are just soooo good for you.

FAST FACTS:

  • Only about 10 calories each (uncooked)
  • Low in fat and sodium
  • High in dietary fiber
  • Cholesterol-free.
  • Very high levels of vitamin C (about 3x more than an orange)
  • Glucosinolates (some research suggest glucosinolates may help lower blood pressure. Other studies have focused on potential benefits including lower risk of various cancers, such as stomach, colon, esophageal, lung and breast cancers)
  • High protein vegetable (accounting for more than a quarter of their calories)
  • Good Source ofvitamin D and folic acid (a recommended supplement during pregnancy)
