Art Inspired Art: Mi Vida Loca… Mural

I can’t even!!!

Works of art like this are not only humbling beyond words, they are an ever-present reminder to follow our dreams.

Masaya, Nicaragua

Even now, as I sort through a rediscovery of my purpose and passion, I am so grateful to connect with the unmistakable force of nature that compels us to create.

I am a huge fan of murals. I try to take pictures of murals where ever I go.

Murals are not only beautiful, they are a form of expression and they can also be a tool for (r)evolution.

Phoenix, Arizona

If you are ever in Los Angeles, you can see some AMAZING murals and you should also check out SPARC (The Social and Public Art Resource Center) in Venice. Judith Baca is the founder of SPARC as well as a professor at UCLA. Here is just a brief article on what she has to say about art changing lives: PBS American Family.

Portland, Oregon

I wish more artists (and when I say artist, I mean ALL people with an urge to create) would read stories like Judith’s. The urge to create can at times feel like a curse but it is a calling.

When we listen and respond, we participate not only in the transformation of our own souls but in the overall transformation of our community.

As always, I am wishing you the very best on your amazing journey. Thank you all for sharing mine!

Art inspired Art: San Fransisco Artist takes on Mi Vida Loca

This is one of several “Art Inspired Art” posts that I have done. I continue to be honored and amazed by the many artists who, with passion and talent, not only share their work but also continue to iconize Mi Vida Loca and it’s characters.

Michelle Guintu is a Bay Area artist who caught my eye on Instagram. An article in Juxtapoz Magazine had this to say about her work, “She re-imagines ’80s and ’90s pop culture icons in a unique way, depicting luminaries that range from Tupac to Ronald McDonald.”

I’m a huge fan of mixed media art. If you have a chance to check out her work, please do. It’s not an easy task to bare one’s soul. I believe that artists who have the guts to create and show their work deserve LOVE and RESPECT.

Art Inspired Art All The Way From Italy

Last Updated on March 22, 2017 Leave a Comment

Here again is a piece that I have totally fallen in love with. ! DON’T LET NO ONE GET YOU DOWN ! *Mi Vida Loca* Sad-GirL. This piece comes to us all the way from Italy.

The artist Ste Fania Sè has some amazing renderings on her Facebook page. You can totally feel her love and fascination for Chicano culture.

Here is a bit of the conversation that we had with Allison Anders (director extraordinaire!)

  • Ste Fania Sè thank you so much Angel! is just a little tribute to your role in this movie, I love it!!!
  • Allison Anders WOW!!!! Where did this come from?

  • Angel Aviles McClinton Ste Fania Sè is the artist and she is from Italy!

  • Ste Fania Sè Allison Anders best compliments for your movie, is a masterpiece!!

I wanted to post this one, because 20 years later, across the globe, people continue to express love for this film and I am sooo humbled to be a part of that.  TWO, I am always reminded that when someone responds to a calling in their SOUL, there is no way to measure the future impact of taking action. Allison, the crew, the producers… all of us, made this film as a way to express our creativity. We gave so much to this project and had NO IDEA that it would become such an iconic representation of that time.

No matter who you are or where you’ve been, YOU can LIVE your DREAM.
KNOW THIS.

This post on my Facebook timeline made me cry…

I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the idea of having fans. All I know is that I’ve been blessed to be part of a group of misfits, outsiders & artist from all over the world. We’ve met because somewhere in there, our soul called and even though people said we were crazy… we listened. Thank you to Nena and the entire Mi Vida Loca loving family.

Once again… so humbled and honored. Thank you ALL for sharing your stories with me. Thank you for hearing me.

This film was never really just about some girls from the hood. It was a love story and some people never got that. That’s why there are people in Japan, Russia, New Zealand the Midwest and more; there are boys and girls and abuelitas and teens, that know and love these characters.

We didn’t set out to out shine anyone. No one thought a Chola movie was a great idea but somehow we made it and tried to be as true as possible. In the end if we relate it’s likely because we know we never did fit the label given, no matter who gave it or where we come from…
